Minnesota H1N1 Vaccination Update
Recommendations Regarding H1N1 Vaccination
Minnesota Department of Health
The Minnesota Department of Health is now advising health care providers and local health agencies to start offering the H1N1 vaccine to anyone who wants it – if they have enough vaccine and they are able to meet the needs of individuals at high risk from H1N1 who want to be vaccinated.
MDH is encouraging providers to make sure people in priority groups identified by CDC have had an ample opportunity to be vaccinated before making vaccination more widely available.
Those groups include people who are:
- Age 6 months through 24 years, with or without a health condition that puts them at higher risk of medical complications from influenza.
- Age 25 years through 64 years with a chronic medical condition that puts them at higher risk of medical complications from influenza.
- Pregnant women.
- Health care providers or emergency medical services personnel.
- Living with or caring for children less than 6 months of age.
Members of these priority groups should make every effort to be vaccinated as soon as they can. It’s still important for everyone to get vaccinated. Although the second wave of H1N1 illness appears to be waning, there is still H1N1 flu activity in Minnesota.
A third wave of illness is still possible later in the winter.
